So yes, my knitting and yarn obession has become pretty well known.  But i wanted to try something different, and i had heard of this thing that happens on Ravelry called swaps.  So, i signed up for one.  The Mix Makers Swap.  basically make someone a mixed CD, send them some yarn, and some other fun things.  Mine got here today!  Lookie!

a twix bar, which is currently being consumed…i was in NEED of chocolate! yummy pomegranate lotion, 2 skiens Patons Kroy Socks Stripes in mulberry stripes, and a fantastic sweater, fiber and color inspired CD. LOVE IT ALL!!! I think this music will be excellent crafting music for me this afternoon!

So, i am excited.  in other news, i am not feeling too hot, so i am getting  back into my sweatpants!  love it!

Oh yeah, i totally just decided to say f that to the NaBloPoMo business.  over it!  went out one night, then i got busy, then lazy.

A good day

November 4, 2008 at 7:27 pm (NaBloPoMo, things I love) (, )

Great things happened today:

I worked in the Pharmacy, which i love.

I PASSED my Driver’s license test.  I know, i have lived in MN again for quite awhile, but i failed the first time and was super nervous.  I am all officially Minnesotan again.

I got a new, to me, cell phone.  I killed my phone last summer, have been using my mom’s old phone, but that is dying real quick, and so i mentioned it to someone I worked with.  Her daughter had an extra, and sold it to me for $20. Whoo Hoo!  maybe i can now have a longer conversation than 20 min on my phone.

I voted.  and that is always exciting.

Now, i am going to eat dinner….yummy.

Rock Band Live

October 27, 2008 at 12:59 pm (things I love) (, , , , , )

I have been away, I know.  But i have been doing fun things, and not even at home.  Seriously, you should SEE my DVR queue! And my cats feel very neglected. I went on a little trip to the Twin Cities, and I started a new position at work, I am going to be working in the pharmacy 2 days a week, and so far, i love it.

I have been looking forward to the Rock Band Live Concert since July, When i got the word that my FAVORITE band in the whole wide world, Dashboard Confessional was going to be there.  Seriously, like everytime i talked about it, my voice got all high and squealy and excited-like.  Well, I convinced two of my friends to go with me, and warned them about my super-fan-ness.

We drove down to the Target Center early, parked, and then went to Applebees so i could have a Perfect Margarita, oh yeah, and have dinner.  so we had dinner, a couple of drinks, and went to the Target Center to Rock out all night long.  We were general admission, and I was super excited to see how close to the stage we were able to be.

First band up was The Cab. This was the only band of the night that i have never heard of, and i promptly fell in love.  We were listening to these guys, and they were REALLY good.  So we were rocking out, and going, that one is really cute, and that one is hot.  Really, they all were cute.  And then they said they were 19.  Oh well, they still are cute, and really good, and I encourage you all to check them out. i searched three Targets on the way home the next day to get their CD, Whisper War.

Next up was the Plain White Ts (i couldn’t get their site to work, so this is a fan site.)  Yes you have heard of them, it is them of Hey There Deliah Fame.  and if you haven’t heard that song this past summer, you have either been living under a rock or only listening to country music.  They were so much fun,  put on a great show, and again, another CD i must purchase.  I got Big Bad World, but need to get their first one.  This video is from the concert, i did not take it, i didn’t have my camera until after Plain White T’s.  It is 1,2,3,4 from their new CD.  Remember, I WAS THERE!

Next, was what I had waited the whole night, no, actually months for.  DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL, and my “boyfriend” Chris Carrabba.  I screamed my lungs out, wished the set would have been longer, and loved every minute of it.  They had a great mix of new and old songs, though i would have really like to have heard “Where there’s Gold.”  One of the funniest and coolest parts of the set was when they brought out the Cab and Plain White Ts (remember, I now love them too.) and they played Pink’s “So What.”  So much fun. I got some pretty good pictures at the beginning of the set, i got too involved as the set went on.  I took a video, but I am not happy with the sound quality. So i won’t post that.

To close the show, Panic at the Disco.  I was most impressed by the lead singer, Brendon Urie.  He was fantastic and played guitar, drums, and keys. Pictures:

So, I was needless to say I was on a fantastic emotional high, and really, would go again in a second.  In fact, plans are in the works to go see The Cab and Plain White T’s in November.  The rest of the pics will soon be up on my Facebook.

So, do you have a favorite concert expirence?  A new band to introduce me to?

Yarn Harvest Shop Hop Wrap Up

September 23, 2008 at 8:28 pm (things I love) (, )

I have never done a shop hop before, but I had so much fun.  I live in the middle of all the shops, so I split it up over 4 days.  This was my birthday gift to myself.  I thought about showing you what yarn i got where, but my family gripes about the amount of knitting i write about on this blog already, and they think my yarn obession is way out there. Armed with my Yahoo Maps (which were AWESOME!!! i never got lost, and that is saying ALOT) It went a little something like this.

Wednesday: Monika’s, Park Rapids.  I purchased some great laceweight, and some very pretty sock yarn for myself.  As always, i was happy walking in and out of Monika’s.  I love that place.  The people are friendly and helpful, and i appreciate how the store is organized.

Thursday:  Me, a cup of coffee, and my grandma.  First stop was Between Friends, Brainerd; then Among the Pines, Baxter; and lastly, At Loose Ends, Perham, where i really got some great Bargain stuff.

Friday I was flying solo, it was kind of nice.  Alexandria and Gallery of Dreams was first on my list.  Then I got to take some great country roads to Prairie Needles in Battle Lake.  Then a hop, skip and a jump to Crates of Yarn in Fergus Falls.  Sock Yarn and Baby Clothes Yarn abounds in my home now!

Saturday I headed with my mom to Fargo.  First Boucle, i didn’t buy anything there, but i love that place…i am thinking i started to get yarn shopped out if you can believe it.  and then Prairie Yarns.  and I was done, and proud of myself for doing all 9.

I think my favorite stores in terms of atmosphere are Boucle and Monika’s.  They just both draw me in. I could probably live at Boucle.

The best gift bag prize goes to Monika’s.  With honorable mentions to Boucle and Between Friends.  i am a sucker for free yarn.

The best door prize goes to Prairie Needles.  Only because I won one.  I am thinking about some more cascade for socks.

This year’s theme was hands.  And I maybe misunderstood, but i was expecting patterns for gloves, mittens and fingerless gloves.  All of the patterns were fingerless, and that was kind of a bummer.  Because really, most people i know don’t “get” the fingerless thing, though i love them.

I am still keeping my fingers crossed for that grand prize…then i could afford to make the sweater I am dying to make for myself.

Overall, i had a great time, and I can’t wait til next year.  But whoa, I really need to get knitting.

September 18, 2008 at 3:19 pm (family, things I love) ()

I am proud of a lot of my knitting projects.  But really, right now these are busting my buttons.  They are really the first cable project, and first patterned sock project that i have done.  And i could not be more pleased with how they turned out.  These are the Twisted Tulip Socks from the Interweave Knits Summer 2008.  They are knit in Pagewood Farms Superwash Merino, Handpainted sock yarn, colorway Bird of Paradise.

My sister is the recipent of these beauties, and I am hoping she will take a picture wearing them and send it to me!

Special Olympics Scarf Project

September 8, 2008 at 12:16 pm (Craftiness, things I love) (, )

I have wanted to do some knitting for donation, and I found a great project!  The Special Olympics is looking for scarves to be made from Super Saver Red Heart from knitters and crocheters.  We have a group on Ravelry.  If you want more info, let me know.

This was a simple basket weave scarf, great mindless knitting for a break from cables and my mom’s cape shawl which will probably kill me.
