Happy New Year!

January 1, 2009 at 5:52 pm (Uncategorized)

Hello All!!!

So, this was going to be a Christmas letter, but it turned out to be a New Year’s letter because some exciting things happened around Christmas that I wasn’t at liberty to talk about yet. But, now I can.

So, what is the same from last year at this time? Well, I am still at Wal-Mart, more about that later. Still renting from my mom (working out, we haven’t killed each other yet!) pursuing my hobbies, and trying to decide what i am going to be when i grow up.

In May, I took a long overdue vacation to Seattle. I went to the Campus Celebration for Trinity Lutheran College, which moved from Issaquah, to Everett. I spent all kinds of time with my Seattle “family,” and was graciously hosted by the Dapelo Family, and my dear friend Aubrey. There are still times i seriously consider moving out there again, and who knows what the future might hold right?

In August my mom’s family was all here in MN, and it was great to spend time with all of them. We had a beautiful summer here, including the week the family was here.

In September, I had to say goodbye to the car that got me through college and beyond. “Rosebud” died because of some valve or something in the motor. With a lack of funds to buy a new car, I am now relegated to driving my Mom’s old mini-van while saving, saving, saving!

Because of the need for more money, and because it has been something i have wanted to do for awhile, I started selling Avon in October. It is a little extra income, and i really enjoy it. It is something i hope to get better at and grow in 2009.

I have now been at Wal-Mart almost 20 months, (WOW! this was supposed to be a 3 month job…) and in the last year, i started thinking about other areas of the store that i could start working in. I have been a customer service manager for 18 months, and I have been ready for a change. In October, I started working in the Pharmacy 2 days a week as a Pharmacy Tech in training, which i have loved. A week before Christmas, I was offered a full time postion in the Vision Center. All the paperwork got done today, and I will be starting on January 17. I do hope to pursue both levels of certification in being an optican. I am so excited to start this new job!

In my spare time i have been crafting up a storm. Scrapbooking, Card making, and most of all, knitting. socks have been my new passion this year, and i love to create new things.

I don’t know what i want to be when i grow up yet, but I do know one thing. I am happy. and almost 2 years ago, i was definately not. Thank you to all of you who didn’t give up on me, harassed me with calls and facebook messages, and showered me with love. I don’t know what i would have done without all of you.

I really don’t know what the next year will hold, but i am excited for new opportunites. I hope you and yours head into 2009 safe, happy, and healthy.

FO: Brent’s Socks

December 17, 2008 at 10:42 am (Uncategorized) (, )

My siblings and I decided not to do gifts this year, so these were originally destined for Christmas, but i got to give them to my little brother right when I finished.

This was my first foray into toe-up sock knitting, and I used Simple Toe Up Socks in Four Sizes by Kim Salazar.  The pattern was easy to read, and worked out because I used a worsted weight yarn.

Yarn used Cascade 220 Quatro in color #9437, or Green.  I used size 5 needles, and a reinforcing nylon on the heels and toes.  I did a rib to spiral around the leg, and used a sewn bind off.

He is outside ALL THE TIME.  So I hope these will keep his feet nice and toasty warm!

A picture of them on my messy craft desk….

today i met…

April 7, 2008 at 5:52 pm (Uncategorized)

Today I met a man that couldn’t read. I had to fill out his paperwork for him so he could recieve money that was sent to him.

I know it happens, but I don’t think I have ever really encountered a grown person that couldn’t read. It saddens and baffles me that in our country, we still have people who cannot read, or write.

I can’t imagine my life without being able to read. it must be incredibly isolating.

thats just what i am thinking about right now.

in other news, we had 16 inches of snow this weekend. reports of up to 20 inches in this area. oh yeah, and if you haven’t looked at your calendars lately, IT IS APRIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not too happy, can you tell?

Hey, do you know anyone who has a master’s in Social work? Where did they go to school? Thanks.

Enjoy your day, hopefully, it is free of snow.

Tonight I am broken-hearted.  I worked tonight, though news of the I 35W bridge collapse reached us.    This was always one of my favorite favorite streches of road into the Twin Cities from the south, as it reminded me of one of the crossings into Seattle from the east.

Minnesotans have a great sense of state pride.  We know that possibly anyone we know in the cities could have been affected.  This doesn’t just effect the metro area, but it will effect the whole state.  As i am watching the news tonight, my heart hurts.  I was just in the cities this weekend, and that idea of what if also enters your mind.

Please keep those effected in your thoughts and prayers.  i know they will be in mine tonight and in the future.

wal mart beginnings

Let me tell you, it has been one heck of a week!

Tuesday, I started out at Walmart…They had no clue what to do with me.  I was just a little frusterated.  Then, I called the mechanic, and they told me my car was shot!  Needless to say, I drove home in tears.

Wednesday, my dad called the mechanic back, and was told that no, my car is not shot, they are just not sure what is wrong with it.  my leg was killing me by the end of the day, as were my feet.

Today, I found out my car is done, hooray!  My feet hurt so bad I can hardly walk.  that is not fun at all.i have to work again tomorrow.  I can’t wait until this weekend…Why?

BECAUSE I GET TO SEE THE BOYFRIEND!!!!!!!!!  I am currently in the process of trying to find a hotel room, it looks like I might have to drive a little farther, since there are no rooms at the halfway point.

i will be back with more later…must go soak my feet…

The Appointment

April 11, 2007 at 4:13 pm (Uncategorized)

Ok calm down…I know you are on pins and needles to see how my dr appt went today.

Good news!  buh bye boot!  I am out of the walking boot, into an ankle brace.  Bad news, only one pair of shoes fits right now…oh well!  Good News!  I can drive again…you have no idea how good it felt to take myself to work!  Good News!  The dr sees no point in me going back to work full-time in the next couple of days…I like that because I don’t think I have that much to keep me busy!

Bad news…I still have the crutches.  but only for a short amount of time, until i feel confident with out them.  like I was today, walking around my house.  but the weather is so crappy (SNOW!) that i would rather have them with me outside.

So, I am pretty pleased with my appointment.  Now, I need to go get ready to hang out with kids tonight…my favorite thing about this job, and the one i am going to miss the most!

like a bug on a windshield

April 6, 2007 at 4:30 pm (Uncategorized)

It hit me yesterday.  right between the eyes, as I was packing up my bathroom. Next week is the last week of my job. then the panic set in…I don’t have another job yet! And then the aimless feeling returned…where am I going with my life?  what the heck am I going to do with myself?

All day today, that very strange reality has set in, even though it’s been nearly three weeks since i made this decision.  and i am sitting with it, and strangely, I am at peace with it.

I made it to my mom’s.  After nearly three hours with my dad, i was ready for a break.  He went to find my brother to help move in stuff.  they are back, i better get to bossing around.
